AMHERST — Amherst kicks off celebrations of its 200 years as an incorporated town with a birthday cake and greetings 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Amherst Town Hall on Main Street.
The kickoff celebration will include gigantic birthday cake and proclamations from elected officials and municipalities throughout the world. Bicentennial Co-Chairs Herbert Schmidt and Dave Sherman will offer greetings.
It is the goal of the Bicentennial Commission to present the Amherst Town Board with 200 proclamations and/or greetings to help celebrate the town’s 200 years and to applaud its distinguished history.
