Swimming & Diving sets two more records on Day 2 of SUNYACs, Mergler claims 50 free

BUFFALO, N.Y.—Buffalo State posted a number of lifetime-best times while senior Connor Mergler (E. Amherst/Williamsville North) highlighted Day 2 of the SUNYAC Swimming and Diving Championships at the Flickinger Aquatic Center, racing to his fourth-consecutive title in the 50 free, while helping the 200 free and 400 medley relays break school records.

MEN’S NOTABLES:
- Mergler completed the career sweep of the 50 free, claiming his fourth title in the event with a winning time of 20.78 seconds.
- Mergler also joined Cody Wittmeyer (Hamburg/Hamburg), Alec Siskar (E. Amherst/Williamsville North) and Kyle Callan (Henrietta/Rush-Henrietta) on the 200 free relay team that earned second team All-SUNYAC honors with a runner-up finish posting a school-record time of 1:24.95.
- The Bengals’ 400 medley relay also had a strong showing as the group of Mergler, Wittmeyer, Josh Bartel (Kenmore/Cherry Hill East) and Tanner Rees (Gasport/Roy-Hart) touched third with a school-record mark of 3:30.01.
- Siskar and Callan joined Mergler scoring points in the 50 free placing 15th (22.16) and 16th (22.50) respectively.
WOMEN’S NOTABLES:
- Kelly Lindner (W. Seneca/W. Seneca West) led the Bengals’ women with an 11th-place finish in the 1-meter dive with a score of 319.50.
- Freshmen Angela McCauley (Schenectady/Home School) and Brianna Thurn (Elma/Iroquois) placed 13th (2:15.55) and 16th (2:17.99) respectively in the 200 IM.
