BUFFALO, N.Y. — Canisius men’s lacrosse returns home Tuesday to host longtime rival Hobart in a midweek contest at the Demske Sports Complex.
Opening faceoff between the Golden Griffins and the Statesmen is set for 7 p.m. The game will be shown live on ESPN3.
Tim Horton’s Night Tuesday
• Tuesday’s contest will be Tim Hortons night at the Demske Sports Complex.
• There will be free Timbits, coffee and hot chocolate for all fans to enjoy.
• There will also be a trike race at halftime with the winner receiving a $20 Tim Horton’s gift card.
Scouting Canisius
• The Golden Griffins (4-3) return home after wrapping up a three-game road swing with a 13-12 victory at Siena on Saturday.
• Senior Connor Kearnan paces the Canisius attack, leading the team in both assists (25) and points (36). Kearnan enters Tuesday’s contest ranked in the top 10 nationally in both assists (3.57/3rd) and points (5.14/9th) per game.
• Sophomore Carter Stefaniak is second on the team in scoring, thanks in large part to a team-high 17 goals. Stefaniak recorded a career-high five goals in the Griffs’ win at Siena.
• Senior Steven Coss sits third on the team’s scoring chart with 23 points (9 G, 14 A). Coss recorded a career-high six points (2 G, 4 A) during Saturday’s victory over Siena.
• Sophomore Reece Eddy highlights the Griffs’ defensive efforts, leading Canisius with 30 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers. Eddy has also chipped in the offensive end of the field this season, recording two goals and an assist.
• Senior Liam Ganzhorn has started all seven games in goal for the Griffs, posting a 13.78 goals against average and a .421 save percentage in 413 minutes played. Ganzhorn has recorded double-digit saves in each of Canisius’ last three contests.
Canisius Battles Back to Edge Saints, 13-12
• Senior Ryan McKee scored with 2:06 remaining in the fourth quarter to lift Canisius to a 13-12 victory over Siena last Saturday at the Siena Turf Field.
• McKee’s game-winning tally highlighted a four-goal effort for the Syracuse, N.Y., native as he helped the Golden Griffins open conference play with a victory for the sixth consecutive season.
• Sophomore Carter Stefaniak recorded a career-high five goals while senior Steven Coss pitched in two goals and four assists. Senior Connor Kearnan tallied one goal and dished out a game-high four assists.
• Canisius increased its lead in the all-time series versus Siena to 21-10 with Saturday’s victory. Each of the last two meetings between the Griffs and the Saints have been decided by a single goal.
• Saturday’s win improved the Griffs’ record in one-goal games to 3-1 this season. All four of Canisius’ wins in 2018 have been by two goals or less.
• Stefaniak recorded his third hat trick of the season as he finished Saturday’s contest with a career-high five goals.
• McKee posted his third hat trick of the season and 10th of his career as he tallied four goals during Saturday’s contest.
• Kearnan tallied five points on Saturday, marking the third time this season that the senior has tallied five or more points in a game.
• Kearnan also moved into sole possession of 11th place on the program’s career points chart as he now has amassed 133 points during his Canisius career.
• Senior Liam Ganzhorn recorded double-digit saves for the third straight contest as he finished with 10 stops on Saturday.
Scouting Hobart
• Hobart enters Tuesday’s matchup with a 3-5 overall record following a 6-5 setback to NEC foe Saint Jospeh’s Saturday at Boswell Field.
• Chris Aslanian leads the Statesmen attack, recording 15 goals and 16 assists for a team-high 31 points.
• Eric Holden and Justin Scott are tied for the team lead with 17 goals while Ryan Archer sits fourth with 12.
• Sam Lucchesi has seen a majority of time of goal for Hobart this season, posting a 7.79 goals against average and a .571 save percentage in 323 minutes of action. Lucchesi recorded a career-high 18 saves in the Statesmen one-goal setback to the Hawks on Saturday.
Canisius-Hobart Series Notes
• In 18 all-time meetings between the two New York schools, Hobart holds a 17-1 advantage against the Griffs.
• Canisius’ lone win in the series came during the 2010 season when it posted an 8-7 overtime victory in Buffalo.
• Hobart has won the last seven games in the series, including an 18-11 victory at the Pinnacle Sports Complex in Victor, N.Y., last March.
• Three of the past eight matchups between the two programs have gone to overtime. All three overtime contests have taken place in Buffalo.
