HAMDEN, C.T. — The Niagara softball team dropped a pair of games to the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Sunday afternoon.
Game 1: Quinnipiac 5, Niagara 1
- Quinnipiac (16-17, 5-1 MAAC) took the 2-0 lead after a two-run homer in the fourth inning and never looked back. The Bobcats added on two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and one in the bottom of the sixth to extend their lead over the Purple Eagles (9-22, 2-4 MAAC) to 5-0.
- In the top of the seventh, Jennifer Timm hit her fourth homerun of the season to put the Purple Eagles on the board. NU, however, could not overcome the Bobcats’ lead and fell, 5-1.
- Kendall Watkins led the Purple Eagles with two hits, including one double.
- Kelsey Harrigan hit her second triple of the season in the top of the first inning.
- Sierra Bertrand (4-8) took the loss in the circle. She struck out four batters and allowed five earned runs in 5.1 innings pitched.
Game 2: Quinnipiac 9, Niagara 0
- Quinnipiac dominated game two, holding Niagara scoreless for the entirety of the game.
- Jerri Ann Orfano had Niagara’s only hit of the game.
- Jennifer Szilagyi (1-5) started in the circle. She stuck out one and allowed five earned runs in 0.1 innings pitched.
