BUFFALO, N.Y. — Two outstanding tennis players from the University of Buffalo were recognized as the college’s Athletes of the Week.
Junior Arianna Paules Aldrey was nearly untouchable for the Bulls during their two victories this past week. She won both of her singles matches at sixth singles in straight sets beginning on Friday afternoon with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Lara Silsko. In the match against the Huskies, Aldrey also picked up a doubles win at third doubles with teammate Emel Abibula, 6-3. On Sunday, Aldrey won again at sixth singles as she dropped just two games in a 6-0, 6-2 win over Western Michigan’s Valentina Sanchez Briend. Aldrey is now 14-3 on the season in singles.
Sophomore Villhelm Fridell dominated singles action for Buffalo this past weekend as the Bulls won both of their Mid-American Conference matches. On Friday, Fridell dropped just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win over Tiago Lourenco from Binghamton. He joined teammate Hao Sheng Koay at second doubles with a 6-2 win. On Sunday, Fridell had a another straight sets win in a 5-2 victory over Toledo as he defeated Thawin Skasathaporn, 6-3, 6-0. Fridell improves to 14-9 on the year.
