CANISIUS COLLEGE ATHLETICS

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Former Canisius standout Cory Conacher begins the pursuit for hockey’s ultimate prize Thursday when the Tampa Bay Lightning open the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs against the New Jersey Devils.

In his second stint with Tampa Bay, Conacher appeared in 36 contests for the Lightning during the 2017-18 regular season, recording eight goals and four assists for 12 points.

The Burlington, Ontario native is no stranger to postseason success during his professional career. He led Tampa Bay’s then-American Hockey League affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals, to the Calder Cup in 2011-12 after he recorded 15 points (2g, 13a) in 18 playoff games.

In 2012-13, Conacher appeared in eight playoff games with the Ottawa Senators, recording three goals as he helped the Sens advance to the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Last season, Conacher guided the Syracuse Crunch to their second appearance in the Calder Cup finals, setting a franchise postseason record with 28 points (12g, 16a) in just 22 games.

Conacher is not the only former Golden Griffin participating in postseason play this spring, as seven former Canisius players will battle for the ECHL’s Kelly Cup. A complete list can be found below.
