UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO ATHLETICS

BUFFALO, N.Y. — University at Buffalo head women’s tennis coach Kristen Maines has announced the addition of Nikoleta Antoniou-Karademitrou, who recently signed her National Letter of Intent for the upcoming 2018-19 season.
A native of Volos, Greece, Antoniou has been one of the top junior players in the entire nation, capped off by an appearance on the Greek National Team in 2015. Earlier this year, Antoniou, who has been ranked as high as 573 in the ITF, reached the quarterfinals round in doubles at the Belgrade Open.  She won the singles championship at the Arab Bank/Golf Club ITF Juniors event in Lebanon this past September.
Over the years, Antoniou has won numerous tournaments throughout Greece in both singles and doubles.  She will join fellow Volos native, Anastasia Palaska in the United State, who the Bulls saw earlier this season playing for the College of Charleston.
“From our first conversation, I knew that Nikoleta would be a perfect fit for this program,” said Maines. “She is a very positive player, who is extremely competitive on the court.  She has worked a lot on her mental game and you can see the difference that has made.  Nikoleta is a great player that values mental toughness and I know that she will only continue to improve once she steps foot on campus.”
Antoniou is the second player to sign with the Bulls for the upcoming season as she joins Pia Schwarz, who signed with UB during the winter.
