Purple Eagles to compete at MAAC Championships this weekend

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS

The Niagara Purple Eagles will compete at the 2018 MAAC Outdoor Track
and Field Championships hosted by the Rider University Track and Field
Complex on May 5-6.



At The MAACs

• The 2018 MAAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships is a two-day event featuring 11 MAAC institutions.
• The MAAC Championships start on Saturday with the women’s portion
  beginning at 4:30 pm with the hammer throw and long jump, followed by
  the running trails at 2:30 p.m.
• On Sunday, the field events start at 10 a.m. followed by the track events at noon.

2017 MAACs Rewind

• Morgan Palmer set
  a school record in the discus throw. Palmer’s discus throw of 42.30m on
  her fifth throw set the record while also finishing fourth to give
  Niagara five points.  Maggie Gerard was 16^th(31.71) and Erin Clark was 19^th with a season-best throw (29.20m).
• In the shot put, Palmer set a personal best with a toss of 11.91m to finish 10^th which was .05m away from qualifying for the finals.  
• In the 5000m, Kayla Murphy led Niagara with a time of 20:00.46, while Mallory Ronan had a season-best time of 20:30.45.
• The 4x100m relay team of Akira Thornton, Maggie Doyle, Jamie Guadagno and Monique McBrideplaced fifth in the event with a time of 50.27.
• The 4x400m relay team of Mara Skordynski, Kelly Nichols, Maggie Doyle and Rachel Wisely had a season best time of 4:10.94 to place seventh.
• Caroline Hampton, Sarah Grubbs, Jamie Guadagno and Nicole Torres set season-best numbers.  
• Hampton’s season-best time of 4:58.41 in her final 1500m race is three seconds faster than her previous season-best.
• Guadagno beat her season-best jump of 4.81 at the Wolfie Invitational with a 4.94m effort.  
• Grubbs ran her second fastest time ever in the 800m. Grubbs posted a
  season-best time of 2:21.43, shaving off four seconds from her previous
  season-high, to place 10^th in the preliminaries. She will be an alternate in the 800m final on Sunday.
• Torres led NU in the 400m hurdles with a season-best time of 1:08.91.

Season Notes
Alfred State Invitational

• After inclement weather delayed the start to their season, the
  Purple Eagles opened the season at the Alfred Invitational on April 23,
  winning eight events on their way to finishing first in the nine-team
  field, which included Little 3 rivals Canisius and St. Bonaventure.
• The team of Lilly Lupinetti, Maggie Doyle, Akira Thornton and
  Brianna Williams boasted a 49.75 time in the 4×100 meter relay, good for
  first place in the relay.
• Alex Laubert finished in first place in the 100 meter hurdles with a
  time of 17.04, while teammate Jenna Minges finished in fourth place
  with a time of 18.88.
• The 100 meter saw three Purple Eagles finish inside the top 10.
  Akira Thornton won the event with a time of 13.07, while Maggie Doyle
  (13.49) was fifth and Lily Lupinetti (13.90) finished in ninth.
• Freshman Emma Bagnato and Nora Klinowski partook in the 800-meter
  relay, finishing in first and second place, respectively. Bagnato
  finished in 2:22.83, while Klinowski clocked out at 2:29.77.
• Senior Casey Leader won the 400 meter hurdles at 1:10.35, while Maggie Rogers took third (1:18.36).
• The quartet of Emma Bagnato, Maggie Doyle, Casey Leader and Sarah Grubbs also finished first in the 4×400 relay (4:13.50).
• Maggie Gerard and Morgan Palmer, who were among the top standouts
  for the Purple Eagles a year ago, continued right where they left off in
  Alfred. Gerard (12.06m) and Palmer (10.86m) earned first and second
  place, respectively, in the shot put.
• Palmer also went on to win the discus throw(37.27m), while Gerard (30.35) placed third.
• In her first meet as a Purple Eagle, freshman Brianna Williams finished second the long jump at 4.93m.

UB Invite

• Senior Maggie Doyle placed seventh (13.47) in the 100-meter dash.
• Emma Bagnato’s seventh-place finish in the 200-meter dash (26.82)
  was the best finish of any Niagara runner. She also took second in the
  400 with a time of 1:00.21, while Kelly Nichols (1:03.69) and Rachel
  Wisely (1:11.49) came in fourth and sixth, respectively.
• Niagara’s trio of Nora Klinowski (2:28.98), Erin Murray (2:30.17)
  and Sarah Grubbs (2:30.17) finished eighth, ninth and 10th,
  respectively, in the 800-meter run.
• Stephanie Webster’s time of 11:15.20 earned her an eighth place finish in the 3000-meter run.
• Alexa Laubert (18.57) and Jenna Minges (18.90) took fourth and
  fifth in the 100-meter hurdles. In the 400-meter hurdles, Casey Leader
  (1:12.76) and Meg Rogers (1:17.82) also finished in the fifth and eighth
  positions.
• The 4×100 relay team of Lupinetti, Doyle, Thorton and Brianna Williams came in second with a time of 51.26.
• In the 4×400 relay, Murray, Klinowski, Grubbs and Doyle won the event, finishing in 4:23.56.
• Brianna Williams (4.60m) had the fifth-furthest long jump of the
  day. Julia Rak (4.38m) also finished in the top 10, taking eighth. Rak
  also took fourth (9.43m) in the triple jump.
• Niagara had two top 10 finishes in the shot put. Maggie Gerard (11.84m) took fourth, while Morgan Palmer (11.37m) placed sixth.
