NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — The Purple Eagles battle for a spot in the postseason as they host the Manhattan Jaspers for a three-game series May 17 and 19. 

Last Time Out
  • The Purple Eagles swept a three-games series with the Rider Broncs May 12-13.
  • NU defeated Rider 8-2 in game one and earned a 6-5 walk-off win in extra innings in game two. Buoyed by a 12-run bottom of the first, the Purple Eagles defeated the Broncs, 20-8, in the final game of the series.

On the Field: Niagara Purple Eagles
  • Shortstop Greg Cullen, who was named MAAC Player of the Week on Tuesday, May 15, continues to lead the country in batting average (.466) and on-base percentage (.559). Cullen leads the Purple Eagles and the MAAC in runs scored (47) and hits (76).
  • First baseman Peter Battaglia leads the team in RBIs (48) and homeruns (seven). Battaglia is second in the MAAC in RBIs and third in batting average (.364).
  • Center fielder Julian Gallup leads the conference in stolen bases with 17.
  • On the mound, Cody Eckerson (3-5) leads the pitching staff with 76 strikeouts in 62.2 innings pitched. He has an ERA of 4.88. Eckerson has struck out the fourth-most batters in the MAAC.

On the Field: Manhattan Jaspers
  • Infielder Richie Barrella leads the Jaspers at the plate, batting .317 with a team-high 57 hits.
  • Infielder Matt Forlow leads the team in runs scored (32), doubles (19) and RBIs (36). He has the second-most doubles in the MAAC.
  • Matt Simonetti (4-5) leads the Jasper pitching staff on the mound. He has struck out 71 batters in 71.0 innings pitched and has an ERA of 3.80.
