PRESS RELEASE
NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — The air base is slated to host a Mass Accident Response Exercise the morning of Saturday, May 19, 2018. This exercise is to be a simulated plane crash taking place during an air show.
There will be approximately 50 actors dressed as wounded victims of the simulated crash to give the first responders an accurate feel of the event. The response portion of the exercise will begin at 9:00 AM and will include emergency response to the simulated crash, victim(s) extraction, and triage of patients. In addition to members of the 914th Air Refueling Wing, there will also be participation from the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority, Niagara County Emergency Services, Grand Island Civil Emergency Response Team, as well as several state and county emergency response agencies from the Niagara County area.
This type of exercise is designed to evaluate the capability of the Niagara Falls ARS to respond to a simulated accident involving mass casualties; evaluate the effectiveness of our emergency response plan and test and evaluate mutual aid agreements with first responders from Niagara County. The NFARS is required to conduct joint exercises to ensure the readiness of both the installation, and the community, in the event of a major accident or disaster. Joint exercises are a proven tool for developing effective working relationships and evaluating emergency response capabilities.
Media interested in covering this event should report to the base main gate on Lockport Road at 8:30 AM, Saturday, May 19 for escort.
