PRESS RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26), a member of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Trade, released the following statement in response to President Trump’s announcement of new tariffs on steel and aluminum:
“The actions by the Administration to apply new tariffs on our strongest allies – including Canada and Europe – is bizarre. While these tariffs – called Section 232 actions – are based on protecting national security interests, this decision to not exempt our strategic allies calls that into question. This continues a chaotic, disruptive approach to administering our trade laws. China continues to be the bad actor globally and enforcement should not ensnare our allies.”
