This year’s Erie County Amateur Golf Championship was played at Grover Cleveland Golf Course in Buffalo.

Hanes, who fired a three-under par score of 66 on Saturday and led the tournament after 18 holes, carded a 71 on Sunday, sending him to a sudden-death playoff against Matt Mariconda. Both players finished the 36-hole event with a combined score of 137.

This is the second golf championship of the summer for Hanes, who also won the New York State Golf Association Men’s Amateur Four-Ball crown with his older brother, Billy, back on May 23.

Fellow Canisius golfer Michael Wells, a rising-sophomore on the Golden Griffins’ 2018-19 roster, finished tied for 14th in the field with a two-round score of 145.
