NIAGARA UNIV. — Niagara University men’s basketball head coach Chris Casey has announced the hiring of Tavares Campbell as the director of basketball operations. Campbell brings collegiate, prep, and AAU coaching experience to the staff.

“I am very pleased to welcome Tavares Campbell to our staff in the role of the director of basketball operations,” Casey said.  “He brings outstanding basketball and life experience to our program.”

Campbell spent the previous three seasons as an assistant basketball coach at Cheshire Academy, a preparatory school located in Cheshire, Conn. Campbell was responsible for developing the defensive game plan, was the point person for the team’s conditioning program, and helped monitor student-athletes’ performance. From March 2010 to July 2015, Campbell was as an assistant coach for CT Select, an AAU club located in Waterbury, Conn.

Campbell served as an assistant coach at Post University, an NCAA Division II program in Waterbury, Conn., from 2009-12. Campbell played at Naugatuck Valley Community College in Waterbury, Conn. and was the captain of the team that advanced to the NJCAA II Final Four.

Campbell earned a bachelor’s degree in political science with minors in psychology, sociology, and management from Southern Connecticut State University in 2007.
