CANISIUS COLLEGE ATHLETICS
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Five home events and a trip to long-time rival Niagara highlight the 2018-19 Canisius men’s and women’s swimming and diving schedule, head coach Scott Vanderzell announced Tuesday. For the fourth-straight year, all home swimming and diving events will be held at the Burt Flickinger Center Pool in downtown Buffalo, the same location of the 2019 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships.
The season will officially begin Oct. 12 when the Golden Griffins travel to compete against Marist in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. After traveling to compete against the University of Rochester Oct. 20, the Blue and Gold will host Geneseo Oct. 27 for the first of four-straight home contests. In that stretch, the Griffs will also host Colgate (Nov. 3), St. Bonaventure (Nov. 10) and Binghamton (Nov. 17).
After taking a month off for the Christmas break and the team’s annual training trip, both teams will return to the pool to compete against long-time rival Niagara in Lewistown, N.Y., Jan. 19. Canisius will close out the regular-season portion of the competition schedule Jan. 25 when the squad hosts Gannon.
For the ninth consecutive year, Canisius will join with Niagara to serve as the host schools for the MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships, which are set to be held at the Flickinger Center Pool Feb. 13-16.
The Canisius men’s swimming and diving team placed fourth at the 2018 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships, the program’s sixth-straight top-five finish at the conference’s championship event. The women’s swimming and diving program also finished fourth at the 2018 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships, while the diving team saw a school-record seven divers earn a trip to the 2018 NCAA Zone A Championships.
