NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — Niagara University alumnus Matt Scott (’18) has joined BV Chemnitz 99 of the Basketball Bundesliga’s ProA (second division) in Chemnitz, Germany.
Scott, a 6-foot-4 wing from Brooklyn, developed into one of the most dynamic players in program history.
A four-year letter-winner and three-time captain, Scott concluded his career with 1,726 points, 737 rebounds, 273 assists and 137 steals. His 1,726 points are seventh most in program history, his 137 steals are 11th most and his 163 career 3-pointers are seventh on the list.
Scott played in 122 games, including starting in 102, as a Purple Eagle. After playing in all 30 games as a freshman, he became the focal point of the program during his sophomore season to earn All-MAAC Third Team honors. He was 10th in the league in scoring with 15.4 points per game, led Niagara in rebounds (7.1) and steals (1.3) per game and was second on the team in assists (2.5) per game. His six double-doubles were the most by a Purple Eagle in six seasons.
Scott collected All-MAAC Third Team accolades in his junior season. He led Niagara in scoring with 17.0 points per game, in rebounding with 7.0 per game and in steals with 1.4 per game. He was fifth in the MAAC in scoring, sixth in rebounding and seventh in steals to be the only player in the league ranked in the top-10 in each category.
Scott, who started in all 33 games, set career-highs in total points scored, field goals made, field goal percentage, 3-pointers made, 3-point field goal percentage, assists, steals and double-doubles. Scott also joined the 1,000 point club during the season.
Scott was named to the 2017-18 All-MAAC Second Team to earn all-league honors for the third consecutive season and was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division I All-District I First Team.
Scott averaged career-highs in points and rebounds while playing in 29 games during his senior season. His 19.1 points per game were third in the MAAC and his 7.3 rebounds per game were second. He was named MAAC Player of the Week three times, which was tied for the most this season. Scott led all active MAAC players in career double-doubles with 18. He was one of 14 active players in NCAA Division I to be in the 1,500 points and 600 rebounds club.
Scott graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport management.
BV Chemnitz 99 was founded in 1999 and has played in the German’s ProA each season of its existence. The top two teams in the ProA final standings qualify for promotion to the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL).
