NIAGARA UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS
NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — The Niagara University women’s soccer team opened the home portion of its schedule with a 2-0 victory over the Cleveland State Vikings on Thursday evening. Freshman midfielder Annie Ibey tallied both goals for Niagara.
Game Summary
- Niagara and Cleveland State exchanged plenty of chances in the first frame. The Vikings earned six corner kicks in the opening 21 minutes, but only generated one shot on those six corners.
- Annie Ibey broke the scoreless tie with a lofted shot over the keeper in the 39th minute. The goal came on Niagara’s seventh shot of the night.
- Ibey netted a brace in the 56th minute when a pass from Kelsey Araujo found her in front of the net and Ibey slotted it home.
- Cleveland State’s best chance came in the 83rd minute, but defensive pressure inside the six yard box resulted in a block and a shot high in the same sequence.
Eagle’s Eye On…
- Ibey played 47 minutes, recording two shots on goal. Ibey entered the game in the 34th minute and scored her first collegiate goal less than five minutes later.
- Sophomore Sabrina Locas played the full 90 minutes, making three saves for her third collegiate shutout.
Inside The Numbers
- Although the Vikings had eight corner kicks during the game, they only generated one shot on goal from those chances.
- Niagara took eight shots in the first half and six in the second, bettering their shot total from their previous game at Bucknell by one.
