AKRON, O.H. — David Egbo and Ezana Kahsay recorded hat tricks to pace Akron to a 10-0 victory over Canisius in collegiate men’s soccer action Saturday at FirstEnergy Stadium in Akron, Ohio.
 
Diogo Pacheco chipped in two goals while Morgan Hackworth and Marcel Zajac tallied one goal each for the Zips, who improved to 2-3-1 on the season with the victory. The loss dropped the Golden Griffins to 1-3-1.
 
Kahsay got Akron on the board at the 37:45 mark of the match, blasting a one-touch feed from Egbo into the upper right-hand corner of the net from the middle of the box.
 
Hackworth doubled the Zips cushion just 61 seconds later, using an Egbo through ball to get behind the Griffs backline before chipping the ball into the net to make it a 2-0 contest.
 
Egbo recorded his three goals in an 8:57 span to open the second half, netting his first just 29 seconds into the frame and adding tallies in the 51st and 55th minute to complete the hat trick.
 
Kahsay pushed the Akron lead to 6-0 with his second of the game at the 65:13 mark before Zajac converted a penalty kick opportunity in the 68th minute to make it 7-0.
 
Diogo Pacheco tallied two goals in a 54-second stretch to make it a 9-0 game. Kahsay completed his hat trick in the 85th minute to close out the scoring.  
 
Game Notes
• Saturday’s contest served as the third meeting between Canisius and Akron and the first since the 1996 campaign. The Zips have won all three contests between the two programs.
• Sophomore keeper Tom Crosbie saw his first collegiate action during Saturday’s contest.
• Akron out-shot Canisius by a 21-5 margin for the contest, highlighted by a 15-1 margin in the second half. The Zips also attempted four of the five corner kicks awarded during the contest.

• Canisius makes its home debut Sept. 22 when the Griffs entertain Little Three foe St. Bonaventure in a 7 p.m. contest at the Demske Sports Complex.
