CHRISTINE COLEMAN BASKIN of Buffalo, New York, transitioned from earthly life to eternity on November 26, 2025 at 84 years old. A woman who loved time spent with family and truly enjoyed life to the fullest.

Christine was a native of Buffalo, born on July 28, 1941 to the late Roy and Lillian Coleman. Christine was the 3rd youngest of 13 children. She attended Buffalo Public Schools and was a graduate of Lancaster High School located in Lancaster, New York in 1960.

After completing high school, Christine attended a Christian College in Indiana. After one year, she returned home to be with family. She then moved to the Washington, DC/Maryland area where she was employed with various companies. She later return to her hometown where she started working at Sisters Hospital as a Nurse Assistant.

Christine gave birth to two beautiful children, Kimberly C. Mays and Kevin A. Coleman Sr. In 1970, she began employment with the Department of Veterans Administration (VA) as Claims Clerk. She worked her way up to Senior Claims Clerk in the Adjudication Division. She received many awards during her service and received a Special Act of Service Award prior to her retirement. She retired from the VA after 33 years of service in 2003.

One of Christine’s favorite past times was bowling. Christine would bowl at lanes all across the city of Buffalo as well as travel throughout the country to various bowling tournaments. Her love for music was always in the home when she would buy a record album every payday from Record Theatre. Her favorite artists included Teddy Pendergrass, Johnny Taylor (Disco Lady), Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, The Isley Brothers and Earth, Wind and Fire, just to name a few.

After she retired from the VA and gave up bowling, she focused most of her attention on doating on her grandson Kevin II. She also enjoyed being with family. She traveled all across the country attending family reunions and helped to plan family gatherings. 

Towards the end, Christine enjoyed playing computer bingo, watching YouTube videos, the news, as well as her favorite gameshow, The Price Is Right. Her happiest days were when she received visits from her nieces Marcia, Patricia, and Courtney, nephew, Eric and grandson, Kevin II. She was extra excited when she got a chance to see her great-grandson Kevin III (Mannie), who she affectionately referred to as her little “Boobie.”

Christine Coleman Baskin’s precious memory lives in the hearts of her children, Kimberly C. Mays and Kevin A. Coleman Sr. (Maria); her only grandchild Kevin A. Coleman II (Ulysscia); and great grandchild Kevin A. Coleman III; siblings Claudine E. (the late James) Reid, Kenneth (Evie) Coleman, and Fanita M. (the late Eugene) Ross; her devoted sister-in-law Penelope Coleman; many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

She was preceded in passing by her sisters, Rose Coleman, Betty Sims and Hannah Hailstock; and her brothers, Herman, Nathaniel, Kither, Melvin, Frank and James Coleman.

The family will receive friends Monday, December 8, 2025, 11:00 AM at St. John Baptist Church, 184 Goodell Street, Buffalo, New York 14204. Funeral to follow at 12:00 PM. Interment Ridge Lawn Cemetery.
