AKRON, Ohio – The University at Buffalo swimming and diving team competed in day one of Akron’s Zippy Invite on Thursday. The seven women’s programs in attendance began the four-day competition with two relay events, the 200-yard medley relay and the 800-yard freestyle relay.

The Bulls highlighted day one by winning the 800-yard freestyle relay. Abbey GardnerBella ForsmanElise McCaul and Kamilla Nemes combined to finish the event with a season best time of 7:18.15. The relay time was two seconds shy of reaching the program’s all-time top 10 for the event (7:16.17).

“Really happy and proud of the women today,” said Head Coach Andy Bashor. “They did a great job of preparing after our travel today. It was a great race from the women to win the 800 freestyle relay. It’s always the goal to compete and win, and it feels good to get a win tonight.”

The Bulls opened day one with a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. Vivian RoyPinar DonmezNicole Aguilar and Forsman combined to finish the event in 1:41.11, another season best time for the program. The time was just over a second shy of reaching the program’s all-time top 10 (1:40.08).

Day one of diving featured a team diving exhibition. The Bulls will compete in the three-meter event on Friday afternoon, with the finals scheduled for the evening session, beginning at 6 p.m.

  • 1:30 p.m. Preliminary Diving: 3-Meter
  • 6pm Finals: 500 Freestyle, 200 IM, 50 Freestyle, 3-Meter, 400-Medley Relay
