The Canisius women’s soccer team returns home Saturday, when the Golden Griffins host Manhattan in Buffalo, N.Y. The Blue and Gold will celebrate its four seniors, Paige Buscaglia, Emily Kuta, Melanie Linsmair and captain Emily Czechowski. Game time is set for 1 p.m., the contest will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
• Canisius suffered a 1-0 setback to Saint Peter’s last Saturday at Caven Point Field in Jersey City, N.J.
• The Peacocks out-shot the Griffs, 6-4, and held a 4-1 advantage in shots on goal. Canisius held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks for the contest.
• The game’s lone goal came in the 36th minute when Saint Peter’s freshman Brooke Boutchie booted a free kick from the center of the field that tipped off of Canisius keeper Alana Rossi‘s fingers and into the right corner of the net.
• Rossi was credited with three saves while Saint Peter’s keeper Victoria Scarratt made one save in her first victory of the season.
ABOUT THE JASPERS
• Manhattan is 1-3-2 on the year and 0-0-1 in MAAC play.
• Five Jaspers have scored a goal this season.
• Manhattan has gotten 33 saves from its senior goalkeeper Kelly DiGregorio through the first six games of the season.
• Manhattan has been out-shot, 105-54, this season.
• The Jaspers’ lone win came Aug. 31 when the team defeated Jacksonville 2-1 on the road. Manhattan is 0-1-2 in its last three outings, including a 1-1 draw last week vs. Fairfield.
CANISIUS – MANHATTAN SERIES HISTORY
• Saturday afternoon’s match will be the 27th all-time meeting between the Griffs and the Jaspers.
• Canisius leads the series, 14-10-2.
• The Blue and Gold and Manhattan have alternated wins going back to 2012, with Manhattan winning by a 5-0 margin last season.
• The two schools first met in 1991, where the Griffs scored an 5-1 victory.
UP NEXT
• The Griffs return to action Sept. 26 when the team travels to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to play Marist at 4 p.m. The Blue and Gold return home Sept. 29 when the team plays host to Iona. That match, which will be broadcast live on ESPN3, is set to start at 1 p.m.
