LEWISBURG, P.A. — The Niagara Purple Eagles had a strong showing in their season-opening event at the Bison Invite this weekend. The doubles tandem of Ali Hutchinson and Olga Donchu won the Flight 2 doubles title.
Invitational Summary
Singles
- Chhinda Som and Andreea Peteu competed in Flight 1. Peteu lost in straight sets to Villanova’s Alexandra Vesikallio. After losing her first match to Bucknell’s Cayla Koch, Som bounced back with victories of Binghamton’s Tiffany Dun (6-2, 7-6) and Marist’s Chloe Lant (7-5, 6-2).
- Shannon Wong and Olga Donchu competed in Flight 2. Donchu won her first as a Purple Eagle with a straight set win over Bucknell’s Jill Auteri to advance to the quarterfinals. She fell to Villanova’s Carina Burdick in straight sets.
- Ali Hutchinson and Megan Gamble competed in Flight 3. Gamble went 2-1 with wins over Binghamton’s Regina Furer (6-2, 6-1) and Marist’s Sam Galu (6-4, 7-6, 9-7). Hutchinson earned a three-set win over Bucknell’s Schuler LaBarge.
- Alexandra Whitney, Loreana Armenti, and Lila Trunzo competed in Flight 4. Armenti fell in the consolation final to Binghamton’s Emily Kong.
Doubles
- The pair of Andrea Peteu and Shannon Wong and Chhinda Som and Megan Gamble competed in Flight 1. Both pairs went 1-2.
- The pair of Ali Hutchinson and Olga Donchu and Alexandra Whitney and Loreana Armenti competed in Flight 2. Hutchinson and Donchu claimed the Flight 2 with victories over teams from IUP (6-3), Bucknell, and Marist (7-6).

- Four Purple Eagles made their debuts – Loreana Armenti, Olga Donchu, Megan Gamble, Lila Trunzo.
