John “Jack” Frank Cwierley, 75, of Lewiston, died peacefully in his home of natural causes on August 9, 2025.
He was born May 26, 1950, the son of John V. and Florence A. (Machjak) Cwierley. He attended local schools, and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1968. Jack then attended Niagara County Community College, graduating with an associate’s degree in liberal arts and sciences in 1971. He went on to study at Buffalo State College, graduating with a bachelor of science degree in marine biology in 1974.
On September 19, 1975, he married the late Judith Ann Promowicz in Niagara Falls.
An extremely affable and friendly man, Jack spent a lifetime talking to people and being involved in his community.
He began his career as a circulation manager at the Niagara Gazette, coordinating newspaper delivery teams. He later worked for local pharmaceutical companies as a sales representative, visiting doctor’s offices throughout Western New York. Jack went on to sell insurance for John Hancock for several years. In addition, he also worked in telecommunications sales and spent time as a tour guide for Niagara Falls attractions.
Jack enjoyed playing and watching tennis with friends at Hyde Park in Niagara Falls. He was involved in several leagues, including the Les Nassoiy Tennis League. He also enjoyed fishing and camping with family and friends.
He had a deep and abiding love for music, especially classic rock and blues. His home was often filled with the sounds of artists like The Rolling Stones, Neil Diamond and Joe Bonamosa.
In the community, Jack served as a longtime usher at St. Mary of the Cataract Roman Catholic Church in Niagara Falls. Jack also helped coach his sons’ Little League baseball teams.
Devoted and loving husband of Judith Cwierley, he was preceded by his parents and his sister, Christine Tolfa. He is lovingly remembered by his two sons, James (Dawn Short) Cwierley and Jeffery (Dawn Kubicki) Cwierley, and by his grandchildren, Jessica Cwierley and Matthew Cwierley.
He had a lifelong love of animals and found comfort and companionship in the dogs and birds that were part of his everyday life.
