BUFFALO, N.Y. — Christiana Davies scored two goals to lift Marist to a 3-0 victory over Canisius in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women’s soccer action Wednesday at Tenney Stadium in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

With the loss, the Golden Griffins fell to 4-4-1 on the season and 1-2-0 in MAAC play. The Red Foxes improve to 4-4-1 and 2-0-0 in league action with the win.

In the 42nd minute, Alexa Svensson booted a corner kick that deflected off of Davies and into the goal to give Marist a 1-0 lead.

The Red Foxes quickly added to their advantage in the 44th minute when Victoria Colatosti dribbled the ball around two Canisius defenders and blasted it into the left corner of the net.

Davies tallied her second marker of the contest in the 71st minute to increase Marist’s lead, 3-0, and close out the scoring. 
 
Junior goalkeeper Alana Rossi was credited with eight saves for Canisius before being replaced by sophomoreBailey Fenwick-Miller in the 75th minute.

Coaches can always be critical after the fact and players can always be critical after the fact, but if we are going to be a good team we will need consistency. Consistency from each player on the field as well as each coach is needed for success. We will have to regroup and refocus as we prepare for Iona on Saturday.”
 
Game Notes
• Wednesday’s contest served as the 23rd all-time meeting between the two schools.
• The win increased Marist’s lead in the all-time series to 15-7-1.
• The Red Foxes out-shot the Blue and Gold, 22-6, and led the Griffs in shots on goal, 11-2.
• Rossi’s eight saves marked a career high, surpassing her seven-save total in a match against Kent State on Aug. 21, 2016.

The Griffs return home Saturday when they play host to Iona. Kickoff for the match, which will be broadcast live on ESPN3, is slated for 1 p.m.
