On Sunday, Jan. 26, at 10:35 p.m., the Town of Niagara Police responded to 69 Steele Circle for a reported garage structure fire. Responding officers were advised that there was a vehicle in the garage and there was one male party with burns.
When officers arrived, they found the garage, residence and adjoining residence fully engulfed in flames. Patrols immediately began evacuating the surrounding residences. Town of Niagara Active Fire Department responded and began extinguishing the fire.
The male party was found to sustain significant burns to his upper body and was transported to Erie County Medical Center by Mercy Flight helicopter. Sadly, one cat perished due to the fire incident, and the SPCA responded to assist the owner with arrangements.
The Red Cross was contacted to assist two families, three adults and three children.
The Niagara County Department of Emergency Management and Niagara County fire investigator responded and will be handling further investigation and information.
Niagara Active Hose Fire Co. was assisted by the following agencies: Niagara Falls Air Force Base, Sanborn Fire Co., Bergholz Fire Co., Mercy Ambulance, Mercy Flight, Town of Niagara Police, Niagara County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police.
