Former Buffalo Sabres captain Kyle Okposo announced his retirement from the NHL today, concluding a career that spanned 17 seasons and 1,051 regular-season games including seven years and 516 games with the blue and gold.
Okposo went out on top, having won the Stanley Cup in June as part of the Florida Panthers after the Sabres traded him to the Panthers in March.
Okposo released an open letter detailing his decision on social media earlier today.
Okposo was drafted seventh overall in 2011 by the New York Islanders. He played there for nine seasons before joining the Sabres in free agency. He was selected to the All-Star Game during his first season with Buffalo, when he scored 19 goals and 45 points in 65 games.
