BUFFALO, N.Y. — After earning first-place finishes in multiple events at the University of Rochester last Saturday, the Canisius swimming and diving programs earned two MAAC weekly awards, the conference office announced Wednesday.

Sophomore Lucas Kennedy was named the MAAC’s Male Swimmer of the Week after having a successful day with top finishes in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke events. The sophomore’s time of 56.30 in the 100-yard breaststroke broke a 24-year-old pool record, surpassing the 58:18 mark set in 1994.

Junior Vinnie Costanzo was named the MAAC’s Female Diver of the Week. The Lewiston, N.Y., native took top honors in the 3-meter event with a score of 265.57, and then posted a score of 248.16 to secure a second-place finish on the 1-meter board.

Both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving progrmas will return to action Oct. 27, when the Griffs host Geneseo in their home-opener. That event will be held at the Burt Flickinger Center pool in downtown Buffalo. The meet is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start time.
