After winning two races with a pair of pool-record times, Canisius sophomore Daphne Mead was named the Jersey Mike’s MAAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.

In a tri-meet against the University of Rochester and Siena Oct. 18, Mead won both the 200-yard backstroke and the 200-yard individual medley races. In the 200-yard backstroke event, she touched the wall first with her time of 2:06.25, which was 5.21 seconds faster than the next closest swimmer, and set a pool record at Rochester’s Speegle-Wilbraham Aquatic Center. In the 200-yard IM, the Baltimore, Md., native set a second pool record with her winning time of 2:07.10, a time that was 5.39 seconds faster than the race’s second-place finisher.

Mead, who won three events in the opening week of the season Oct. 11 at Marist, was also a part of the Golden Griffins’ 200-yard medley relay team, which started off the tri-meet with a first-place finish. This week’s honor marks the third time that she has been recognized as the MAAC’s Swimmer of the Week, having earned the award twice during the 2024-25 campaign.

The swimming and diving teams will open the home portion of the 2025-26 season Oct. 24 when the teams host Geneseo at the ECC Flickinger Center Pool in downtown Buffalo. The event is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
