The Canisius rowing team opened its fall season with a first-place finish for the Varsity 8 boat in the Yinzer Cup, racing in a field against Toledo, Mercyhurst and host Robert Morris Saturday morning at McPhail Boathouse in Pittsburgh, Pa.
The Golden Griffins Varisty 8 shell won by 29.6 seconds, clocking a 15:33.1 finish. The 2V8 and 3V8 shell finished in fifth and seventh place with times of 16:13.4 and 17:22.2, respectively.
