BUFFALO – Willa Overton (Watertown, NY/Watertown) of the Buffalo State women’s soccer team and Diego Rivera (East Meadow, NY/Cairo Durham) of the Buffalo State men’s soccer team have been named Bengal Athletes of the Week presented by UBMD Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine.

Overton, a sophomore interior design major, had a strong week for the Bengals as she led the women’s soccer team to improve to 3-0 in conference play. In the win over Morrisville, Overton tallied a hat trick and an assist and later added an assist in the team’s win over Canton on Saturday.

Rivera, a senior childhood education major, continued his historic season helping the Bengals improve to 3-0 in conference play. Rivera netted both goals in Buffalo State’s 2-0 win over Morrisville before adding another goal and an assist in the team’s 2-0 win over Canton. On the year, Rivera now has 22 goals and 52 points and sits just two goals, and three points shy of matching the program record for most goals and points in a single season.

The men’s and women’s soccer teams return to action tomorrow as they will travel to battle Fredonia for “Battle by the Lake.”
