Niagara scored three goals in the first half and that helped prevail them past Robert Morris at Niagara Field in Niagara University, N.Y.
Juan Cardona picked up the Purple Eagles first goal of the contest of a Olimpico from the far side corner, where he was able to bend it into the goal going in the top right corner at the 6th minute of play.
Andre Santos recorded his first goal as a Purple Eagles in the 42nd minute. Cardona played the ball to the right side of the goal where he found Landon Hungerford who passed it to Santos who made no mistake as he placed it in the top right corner of the net.
Rounding out the first half scoring for the Purple and White was Hungerford in the 44th minute. Jeremie Truel played a long ball down to Hungerford who beat the defender and was left alone with the Robert Morris keeper and placed the ball with his left foot in the top left corner of the goal.
In the second half the Colonials responded with two of their own goals in the 69th minute and 74th minute respectively.
The game winning goal for Niagara came from Reon Tezuka who spun off his defender and was in on the Robert Morris goalkeeper who got a piece of Tezuka’s shot but did not get enough of the shot as it just dribbled across the line.
The Colonials last goal came in the 88th minute off a penalty kick.
Notes From Coach Boyle
“Proud of our guys today. We went up 3-0 and honestly could have had 4 or 5. Unfortunately, we made it interesting by conceding on a corner that should have been cleared, giving up a tough turnover in a critical area, and then putting the ref in position to call a late PK. Those are all things we can clean up — and when we do, this is a very impressive win against an NCAA tournament team from last year. It’s still early, and with guys getting healthy, we’ll be ready as we head into conference play next weekend at Fairfield”.
