
R. Michael Sexton, 93, of Grand Island, NY, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY, after a 16-year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Born in Warren, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph M. and Cecil (Engstrom) Sexton.
After graduating from Smethport High School in Smethport, PA, Mike joined the United States Air Force where he served as a flight radio operator from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1954. Following his military service, he attended Marietta College in Ohio, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering. Mike went of to spend his career at National Fuel Gas in Buffalo, NY as a Petroleum Engineer and Superintendent for 32 years until his retirement.
Mike is survived by his spouse, Dr. Patricia Ormsby Sexton, of Grand Island, NY; his children, Jay Sexton, of Philomath, OR, Sarah Sexton, of Corvalles, OR, and Jennifer Sexton Riley of Cape Cod, MA; as well as several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Joanne Loomis.
The family would like to thank the staff of Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital and Niagara Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.
