ALBERT “SUG” STUCKEY JR. was born on June 29, 1944, in Dublin, Georgia, to the late Albert Sr. and Louella Stuckey.
After the family moved to Buffalo, New York, “Sug,” as he was affectionately known, attended Buffalo Public School #75. It was there on the playground of Sperry Park (and anywhere else he could find a pick up basketball game), that he began to hone his ball skills.
Sug took his talents to McKinley High School, where he became one of the best basketball players in the City of Buffalo, achieving “All High” status. Sug continued basketball at Buffalo State College.
In November of 1965, Sug began his career at Niagara Mohawk, rising through the ranks from elevator operator to employee relations manager, where he was responsible for hiring a multitude of individuals, mostly from “Our” community. With this position, he was recognized with the prestigious Black Achievers Award in 1979. Sug remained in this position until his retirement in April of 2002.
In Albert’s retirement, he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed bowling and volunteering for National Inner Cities Youth Opportunities (NICYO). Albert was known for his love of cars, notably, his favorite Blue Toranado, and for being a sharp dresser.
Albert was raised in a Christian home and confessed Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age. Albert attended Calvary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Reverend L.T. Boyce, where he remained a faithful member under the current leadership of Reverend Corey B. Gibson, for over 50 years. Albert was an active member of the Male Choir, until his illness prevented him to partake.
Albert was united in holy matrimony to the late Yvonne (nee Dickson) Stuckey on April 2, 1966. To this union, two sons, Darryl Lamont Sr. and Shawn DeVol, were born.
Albert “Sug” Stuckey Jr. slipped away peacefully into the loving arms of our Savior Jesus Christ, on August 17, 2025, at 9:06 a.m. “Well done, thy good and faithful servant.”
He leaves to cherish his memories his children: Darryl L. (Tawanda) Stuckey Sr., Shawn D. Stuckey, and Alandra Belle; grandsons: Dayna, Tyree, Darryl Jr., and DeMarcus; granddaughters: Taccara (Jordan), Jayde, Shelbi, and Gianna Sharde; great-grandchildren: Ja’Cari, Te’ari, Isreal, Aria, Jordan, and Aiden; nieces: Andrea, Regina (Larry), and Kimberlyn; nephew, Jonathan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family, and friends.
