Bertha “Tootsie” B. Janik, 93, of Lewiston, NY, passed away peacefully at her residence on August 10, 2025 while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the cherished daughter of the late August “Bud” and Bertha (Pietras) Racey.
Bertha attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. On August 2, 1952, she married her beloved husband, Mathew F. Janik at the former Holy Trinity Church in Niagara Falls.
Bertha began working at Moore Business Forms as the Executive Secretary to the President. She also was employed as a floral designer at Carousel of Flowers and later retired as manager of the former Cape Craftsman/Welcome Home store in the Factory Outlet Mall in Niagara Falls.
Tootsie had a love for arts, especially Danish needle painting, drawing, and painting. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband of 73 years, she is survived by her children, Gary (Barbara) Janik, Lori (Christopher Barone) Janik and Sharon (David) Janik-Venne; her grandchildren, April (Michael) Ranalli and Karen (Quentin) Myrick; her great-grandchildren, Jackson Ranalli, Kennedy Ranalli and Reagan Myrick; her sister, Dorothy (Joe) Macielag; her nieces and nephews, Mark (Diana) Macielag, Michele Macielag, Rebecca Hogamier, Jason (Akiko) Racey, Jordan (Phany) Racey and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, John (Carol) Racey and Frank (late Sandy) Racey.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 13 from 4 – 8 PM at M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 14 at 11:00 AM.
