Hello Metalheads! This is John back with another early album review! This time I have Digital Plague by Kallias which comes out on August 14th, 2025. They happened to reach out to us and ask if we had any interest in reviewing this album. I was already looking into them and was planning on giving it a shot so I was elated to see them in the emails!
Kallias is a progressive metal that combines elements of all kinds of death metal sub genres to create their sound. I hear influence from straight up prog, groove, tech-death, and even some symphonic elements that pop up every once in a while. They have a wide range of styles from their melodic choruses that I find myself humming to their angular angry spastic chuggs to their technical passages. This album has a few features on it, Chaney Crab(Entheos) who is popping up on quite a few albums with brutal features. They also feature Ian Waye(Soreption) shredding leads on five of the eight tracks.
The sixteen minutes from the beginning of Phenomenal in Theory and the end Pyrrhic Victory is a fantastic stretch of death metal. It really shows off all of their styles, techniques and grooves so well. Exogíini Kyriachia is my favorite track of the album and it is in the middle of this stretch. The faces I made when the grooves hit all over this track were amazing. I still find myself doing it as I am listening right now. The way the first riff is introduced at the start of the track is amazing, then on top of that it is changed as the track moves on. Then it’s even reused after one of the choruses with this eerie lead over top.
Overall I would give Digital Plague a 9/10 in my rankings. There aren’t any weak tracks in the album and for that matter passages either! As always don’t forget to stream and even buy this album. Links to Kallias’ social and streaming sites will be below!
