
Doris (Dolly) Jean Schul, 98, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 surrounded by her family. Born in Kerrmoor, Pennsylvania on July 16, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Alice (Johnston) Barrett.
Doris moved to Niagara Falls in 1945. On February 10, 1951, she married Richard William Schul at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls. Richard predeceased her on March 17, 2004, after 53 wonderful years of marriage.
For several years Doris worked as Head Cashier at B-Kwik in Niagara Falls. She was a devout and active member of St. Paul Evangelical Church, where she served as a eucharistic minister and sang together with her husband in the choir. Doris was a member of St. Paul’s Quilters for 55 years, where she coordinated quilt shipments to those in need all over the world. She enjoyed sewing and cooking for her grandchildren and was a gifted and talented gardener who loved sharing her flowers with family and friends. Doris was also an avid reader. Above all, she was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother who cherished spending time with her family, especially her adored grandchildren and great grandchildren, the pride and joy of her life.
Doris is survived by three sons, Donald of Niagara Falls, Robert (Kathy) of Lewiston, and James (Joanne) Schul of Gilroy, California; one brother, Frank (Diane) of Pennsylvania, one sister, Ruth (late Raymond) Kunsman and four grandchildren, Michael and Craig (Lisa) Schul, Carly (Benjamin) Boltz, and Connor Schul; five great-grandchildren, Jordan, Jenna, Kaylin, Lana, and Blake, and two great-great grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by her brother-in-law Leonard (late Loretta) Schul. She was predeceased by her sisters, Eliza (late Bruno) Fontanella, Phyllis (late Donald) Frye, Dewey Ponish; brothers, Edward (Alma), William (Jeannie), Alvin (Sally), and Richard Barrett; brother-in-law, Howard (late Pat) Schul and sister-in-law Eileen (late George) Hartwig. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 13, from 3 to 7 p.m. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 14, at noon at St. Peter Church, 620 Center Street, Lewiston, followed by interment at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lewiston, NY.
