Donald “Donnie” West, of Grand Island, NY, passed away peacefully at his residence on June 10, 2025. Born in Punxsutawney, PA, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Rose M. (Verdill) West; and was the beloved husband of Deby West, whom he married on February 20, 1993, at the Red House in Allegany State Park.
Donnie moved to Niagara Falls as a child with his family and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. While in high school, he began working at Tops Market and Robert Hall Clothes. After graduation, he worked at Chisholm Ryder and Lyphomed/Fujisawa, before dedicating many years to Fresenius Kabi Pharmaceuticals prior to his retirement.
An avid outdoorsman, Donnie found immense joy in boating, fishing, and hunting, with a particular passion for turkey hunting. His adventurous spirit led him on hunting trips across the United States, where he forged lasting memories. He also treasured time spent at his family’s cabin in Ellicottville, NY. Donnie was a dedicated member of Niagara River Station. He took great pride in landscaping and gardening, creating a beautiful home alongside his wife, Deby.
Known for his kindness, generosity, and willingness to lend a helping hand, Donnie touched the lives of many. He treasured moments spent with family and friends and will be remembered for his love and dedication to his beloved family and countless friends.
In addition to his wife, Deby, Donnie is survived by his loving brother, Charles “Chaz” West, and will be fondly remembered and missed by Brett and Blair May, and his loyal lab, Kinsey. He also is survived by his dear extended family, many cousins and friends.
Visitation will be Monday, June 16 from 1 – 4 & 6 – 8 PM at M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will begin Tuesday, June 17 at 11:00 AM. Entombment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Memorial offerings may be made to White Whiskers Dog Sanctuary at whitewhiskerswny.org.
