United Way of Orleans County Will Use Spectrum’s Support to Offer Digital Literacy Classes
ALBION — Spectrum today announced the United Way of Orleans County has received a $30,000 grant through its 2024 Spectrum Digital Education program. This year, the program is awarding a total of $1.3 million to 66 organizations. Since launching in 2017, Spectrum Digital Education has committed more than $10 million to nonprofits focused on improving digital literacy, workforce development and educational access in unserved and undeserved communities across Charter’s 41-state service area.
“Connectivity is the foundation for meaningful learning, professional growth and human connection, and helps to build strong, thriving communities,” said Scott Stinson, Regional Vice President, Field Operations for Spectrum. “Spectrum Digital Education supports programs that empower community members to enhance their lives with connectivity, from providing digital literacy training to seniors to connecting students with important resources and tools for their education.”
The United Way of Orleans County connects people, resources, ideas, and funding to strengthen the community, embracing values of collaboration, responsiveness, inclusivity, service, and accountability. It will use the funding to provide free tech tutoring and digital literacy classes to community members.
“We are proud to have Spectrum’s support in our ongoing community work through education classes, one-on-one sessions, and drop-in opportunities,” said Nyla Gaylord, Executive Director, United Way of Orleans County. “Since the pandemic, we have helped hundreds of Orleans County residents develop the skills necessary to navigate the digital world skillfully and safely. We look forward to continuing to foster connections, curiosity, and create opportunities.”
A ceremonial check presentation will take place at the organization’s Annual Golf Tournament on June 6 at 9 AM at the Shelridge Country Club in Medina, NY. Nyla Gaylord, Executive Director of the United Way of Orleans County, and John Fitzak, Orleans County Legislator, will also be in attendance and making remarks.
“We are grateful to Spectrum for their generous support through the Spectrum Digital Education grant,” said Lynne Johnson, Orleans County Legislature. “This funding will enable the United Way of Orleans County to provide essential digital literacy classes and tech tutoring to our community members, bridging the digital divide and empowering individuals with the skills necessary to thrive in today’s digital world.”
