The Niagara Falls Americans outpaced their cross-border counterparts, the Niagara Ironbacks on Friday night, winning 7-4 in front of a stadium packed with fans, friends and family.

The Ironbacks struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. But the Americans saw their run and raised them three more, taking a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the inning thanks largely to a two-run triple by Jake Hollins.

The Ironbacks chipped away at the lead, adding another run in the third, sixth, and seventh innings to tie the game at 4.

In the bottom of the seventh, however, the Americans re-took the lead — this time for good, going up 6-4 thanks to a base on balls, a bunt and three singles to knock in a pair of runs. The home team added a run in the eighth to take a 7-4 lead, which was the final score.

The Americans will take on the Ironbacks again on Saturday, this time on the other side of the border in St. Catherines. They’ll then return home on Sunday to play the Jamestown Tarp Skunks.
