Linda Penkalski, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, nurse and friend, passed away on February 13, 2025, surrounded by the family she cherished. Born on January 7, 1952, in Buffalo, NY. Linda lived a life defined by kindness, selflessness, and an unwavering devotion to those she loved.
The daughter of late Irene (nee Rozmus) and the late Stanley Kopiasz Sr., Linda grew up embracing her Polish heritage, a legacy she carried forward in the traditions she built with her own family. She married the love of her life, Henry (Hank) Penkalski, on January 8, 1972, and together they created a home filled with love, laughter, and warmth. Linda was a devoted mother to Michelle Lynn Romanowski, Amy Marie Spitzer, and Laura Anne Connelly (Patrick) and a cherished grandmother to Maia Romanowski, Erin Connelly, Evelyn Romanowski, Brice Romanowski, Avery Spitzer, Megan Connelly, Ian Connelly, and Allison Spitzer. She also shared a close bond with her brothers, Stanley Kopiasz Jr. (Linda) and Robert Kopiasz (Nancy).
For over 40 years, Linda dedicated her life to nursing, spending most of her career at Sister’s Hospital and most recently Center for Ambulatory Surgery. She found deep fulfillment in her work, particularly alongside her colleagues in the Endoscopy Department, forming lifelong friendships with those who shared in her commitment to caring for others. Her healing touch extended far beyond the hospital walls—she was a constant source of comfort, encouragement, and love to all who knew her.
Faith was the cornerstone of Linda’s life. A devout Catholic, she lived in the spirit of Mary, embodying compassion and grace in all she did. She was an active member of the Ford Wagon Train, a lover of the simple joys in life, and found happiness in traveling to the beach with her family, playing bingo and slots with friends, and celebrating the traditions that defined her heritage.
Above all, Linda’s greatest joy was her family, particularly her grandchildren. They were the light of her life, and she made it her mission to “overdose” on the love and joy she shared with them. She was at the heart of every holiday gathering, especially Easter, where she paid tribute to her family’s traditions and upbringing in Buffalo. She created a home where love was abundant, laughter was frequent, and everyone felt special in her presence.
To know Linda was to feel seen, heard, and loved. She had a rare gift for listening without judgment, always seeing the best in people and putting others before herself. She taught those around her that life wasn’t about material things but about the little moments spent with family, the love shared, and the kindness given freely.
Linda Penkalski’s warmth, generosity, and boundless love will never be forgotten. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, faith, and the simple but powerful lesson that the best things in life are the moments we share with the people we love.
Family will be present Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the PIETSZAK FUNERAL HOME, 2400 William St. (near Harlem). Relatives and friends are invited to assemble for a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Gabriel Church (5271 Clinton Street) Wednesday at 9:30 AM.
She will be laid to rest at St. Matthew Cemetery in West Seneca, NY.
