Niagara County Sheriff Michael J. Filicetti announces that the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, along with local law enforcement agencies across the county, will participate in a special initiative aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of impaired driving.
In a concerted effort to prevent injuries, save lives, and stop impaired driving, law enforcement officers throughout New York State will be actively patrolling the roads for offenders. The statewide STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign will take place from Sunday, February 9th through Monday, February 10th. This initiative is designed to reduce impaired driving-related accidents, injuries, and fatalities by increasing enforcement and public awareness.
Local law enforcement will be out in force during this coordinated effort to keep our roads safe. The STOP-DWI Super Bowl High Visibility Engagement Campaign is part of a broader, year-round initiative promoted by STOP-DWI New York and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.
In addition to the Super Bowl weekend, this campaign is also observed during other high-risk periods such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, the holiday season, St. Patrick’s Day, Memorial Day Weekend, July 4th weekend, and Labor Day, among others. While STOP-DWI efforts across the state have led to a significant reduction in alcohol and drug-related fatalities, impaired driving continues to claim far too many lives. Through highly visible engagement and publicized campaigns like this, the goal is to further decrease the number of impaired driving incidents and make New York’s roads safer for all.
The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office encourages all drivers to stay sober and make responsible decisions behind the wheel. If you plan on drinking or using impairing substances, please designate a sober driver, use public transportation, or arrange for a ride-sharing service. Together, we can prevent tragedies and save lives.
