WHEATFIELD — On Sept. 22, 2024 at 0129 hours, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a structure fire at 2164 River Road in the Town of Wheatfield.

Upon arrival, deputies found heavy black smoke coming from the detached garage. Nearby residents were evacuated to safety.

During the course of the fire operations, a volunteer firefighter from Frontier Volunteer Fire Company suffered a presumed medical emergency and fell down a flight of stairs as a result. The 41-year-old male was transported by Tri-Community Ambulance to ECMC for non-life-threatening injuries.

There is no property damage estimate available at this time and the cause of fire is under investigation by the Niagara County Fire Investigation Unit.
