BUFFALO — Erie County Sheriff John C. Garcia reports the arrest of 29-year-old Deron Rhone of Buffalo, following an ongoing investigation led by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics and Intelligence Unit and assisted by the Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Border Enforcement Security Task Force (BEST) and the City of Buffalo Police Department.

On July 31, 2024, a traffic stop was initiated in the vicinity of Berkshire Avenue and Parkridge Avenue for vehicle and traffic violations. The operator and single occupant of the vehicle identified himself as Deron Rhone with his Jamaican passport. During the stop, it was discovered that Rhone could not produce his NYS permit and the vehicle’s registration was suspended. Rhone was detained and an impound inventory search was conducted. The following items were located during the search.

  • A kilogram of suspected cocaine.
  • Scale with cocaine residue.

Rhone was subsequently taken into custody and charged with the following.

  • Criminal possession of a controlled substance – 1st Degree – Class A-1 Felony
  • Criminal possession of a narcotic drug w/intent to sell – Class B Felony
  • Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia – 2nd Degree (2 Counts) – Class A Misd
  • Numerous Vehicle and Traffic Infractions

Rhone was remanded to the Erie County Holding Center pending his arraignment in Buffalo City Court.
