Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced that Kalique Miller, age 19, of Niagara Falls, was sentenced to spend the next 30 years in prison following his conviction of the crimes of Attempted Murder, Attempted Aggravated Assault of a Police Officer, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon. The defendant was sentenced to 20 years in prison for attempting to kill a 22 year old woman by shooting her multiple times in Niagara Falls on November 10, 2022. Miller was sentenced to an additional 10 years for shooting at Police Officer James Bissell in the Town of Niagara on January 18, 2023 as Bissell responded to a burglary call in which Miller was involved. County Court Judge Caroline Wojtaszek ordered that the sentences be served consecutively.
DA Seaman said, “police officers put themselves in harm’s way every day in order to protect our community. Thankfully Officer Bissell was hot harmed in this instance. Also, thankfully, the young woman that this defendant shot is recovering well from her injuries. The judge’s sentence ensures that this dangerous individual will not pose a threat to others in the community for a very long time.”
The cases were investigated by the Niagara Falls Police Department, the Town of Niagara and the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by First Assistant District Attorney Doreen Hoffmann and Assistant District Attorney Mattie Davis.
