The Buffalo Zoo has a new family member — a red panda named “Mogwai.” He’s the one on the left in the photo. Mogwai, a year and a half old, comes to Western New York via the Pueblo Zoo in Pueblo, Colo, according to the zoo’s Facebook page.

The zoo said, “Mogwai’s move to Buffalo was based on a recommendation from the Species Survival Plan (SSP) for Red Pandas from The Association of Zoos and Aquariums. In addition to that recommendation, the SSP also recommended that our other male, Scout (on the right in the photo), move to the Pueblo Zoo where he will be paired with a female!

“The plan for Mogwai is that in a year or so we hope to bring a female in to be a mate with him (based on the SSP recommendation). Currently, he is out in the red panda habitat and can usually be seen sleeping in the trees or above the glass viewing window. This Saturday is International Red Panda Day, making it the perfect day to meet Mogwai and say hello,” the zoo said.
