Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 23-year-old Amonti K. Atkins of Buffalo was arraigned this morning before Buffalo City Court Judge Phillip Dabney, Jr. on one count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, one count of Assault in the First Degree and one count of Gang Assault in the First Degree (Class “B” violent felonies).

It is alleged that on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at approximately 1:39 p.m., the defendant, while acting in concert with co-defendants Amari K. Atkins and Demetrius F. Gore, intentionally attempted to cause the death of the victim by repeatedly stabbing, kicking and punching him. The crime occurred on the 1500 block of Broadway near Deshler Street in the City of Buffalo. The victim, a 41-year-old male, was taken by ambulance to ECMC where he remains hospitalized with serious physical injuries.

Earlier this week, Amari K. Atkins, 27, of Buffalo and Demetrius F. Gore, 52, of Buffalo were also arraigned before Judge Dabney. Each were charged with one count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, one count of Assault in the First Degree and one count of Gang Assault in the First Degree (Class “B” violent felonies).

Atkins, Atkins and Gore are scheduled to return on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. for a felony hearing. All three defendants were held without bail.

If convicted of the highest count, each face a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.

DA Flynn commends Officer Brian Nagy, Detective Carrie Sitarski, and Detective Erin Heidenger of the Buffalo Police Department for their work in this ongoing investigation.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Briana R. D. Miller of the Felony Trials Bureau.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
