Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 47-year-old Genile Wilson of Buffalo was sentenced this morning before Erie County Court Judge Suzanne Maxwell Barnes to 3 ½ to 7 years in prison. He was sentenced today as a second felony offender.

On Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at approximately 10:14 p.m., parole officers were on their way to conduct a search of the defendant when they encountered him on the 300 block East Ferry Street. When a parole officer called the defendant by name, he ran from the parole officers. The parole officers ran after the defendant, but lost sight of him after he fled down a driveway. A couple minutes later, the defendant returned to the end of the driveway where he was detained by the parole officers.

The parole officers asked Buffalo Police officers, who were on routine patrol, to assist with a search of the area. A Buffalo Police officer found a loaded handgun nearby in a driveway on Goulding Avenue, which was placed into evidence by Buffalo Police. The defendant was linked to the gun through DNA evidence.

Wilson pleaded guilty to one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (Class “D” violent felony).

DA Flynn commends the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision parole officers and the Buffalo Police Department for their work in this investigation.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Timothy Garvin of the Narcotics/Intelligence Unit.
