Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 31-year-old Anthony Reynolds of Buffalo was arraigned this morning before State Supreme Court Justice Paul B. Wojtaszek on an indictment charging him with one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree (Class “B” violent felony).

It is alleged that on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at approximately 5:52 p.m., the defendant stabbed the victim once in the torso. The crime occurred inside of a building on West Utica Street between Linwood Avenue and Main Street in the City of Buffalo. The victim, 26-year-old Marquese Smith, died at the scene.

Reynolds is scheduled to return on August 22, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. for a pre-trial conference. He continues to be held without bail.

If convicted of the charge, Reynolds faces a maximum of 25 years in prison.

DA Flynn commends Detective Erin McCarthy of the Buffalo Police Department for her work in this investigation.

The case is being prosecuted by Chief Justin T. Wallens of the Felony Trials Bureau.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
