Playing in their fourth game in four days, the Canisius men’s basketball team was able to grind through and earn a victory to close out the 2023 foreign trip to Canada, as the Blue and Gold scored a 79-74 win over Bishop’s University in Lennoxville, Quebec Wednesday afternoon.

With the victory, Canisius ends its foreign tour to Canada with a perfect 4-0 record, where the team averaged 84.3 points per game.

Sophomore guard Tahj Staveskie led all scorers with a game-high 33 points, which included five makes from 3-point land. Junior forward Xzavier Long had 12 points for the Blue and Gold, while newcomer Cam Palesse chipped in a dozen points as well.

In the final game of the road trip, Canisius started off slow, trailing Bishop’s 21-18 after the first quarter. Canisius battled back, and led at the break by the score of 46-37 at intermission. In the second quarter, Staveskie led the scoring charge for the Griffs with eight points on the power of two makes from behind the arc. In the third quarter, Bishop’s used a 17-0 run in the frame to cut the Blue and Gold’s lead to 64-60, but eight points by Staveskie and six points by Long in the game’s final frame helped Canisius secure the win.

Canisius will return to action on Nov. 8, when the team opens the 120th season in program history at Syracuse.
