Thin Man Brewery announced this evening on its social media that its Elmwood Avenue location will be closing in just two days.

The notice from Thin Man, posted to its Facebook and Instagram pages follows in its entirety:

“To our beloved regulars, patrons, and supporters of Thin Man: It comes with a heavy heart that we inform you the doors to our Elmwood Ave taproom will be closing effective Wednesday. The emergence of the Covid-19 Pandemic onset many lasting, impactful changes in the Craft Beer Industry that have made the navigation and sustainability of this industry difficult to control. Considering these changes, we’ve been faced with making a very difficult and saddening decision. We will be narrowing our focus to both brewing locations and our Chandler Street taproom. With that in mind, we will continue to bring the beers that we all know and love, while focusing on brewery innovation. The last seven years at Elmwood have been full of great times, amazing people, and so much more. On behalf of the staff here at Thin Man, we are beyond grateful to our patrons, friends, and family for all the support we’ve had by our side. We will be fielding questions and concerns as best we can. We are working hard on the backend to reach out to all of those who will be impacted by this news. Again, we are immensely grateful to our
local community for all the overwhelming support we’ve received over the years.

With much love and gratitude,

The Thin Man Team ❤️”

The majority of responses to the social posts expressed regret at the loss for the Elmwood Avenue district.

Others, however, had questions:

“So, TM decided to close their doors on Elmwood…and didn’t bother to give their Staff a heads up or offer to move them to a different location? Seems a bit shifty…nice way to show respect to your staff…this was not an overnight decision…way to give your hardworking staff a heads up in this economy.” — Dave Goldstein on Facebook.

“Sounds very suspect. Announcing today and closing on Wednesday. Plus you just did renovations.” — d.c.photos on Instagram.

“Seems like there’s another reason for the closure??” — jeffmaj16 on Instagram.

As noted in the post, the Chandler Street taproom will remain open.
