NEWFANE — On July 5th, 2023 at approximately 1934 hours, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received multiple 911 Calls reporting an agricultural structure fire at 6781 Ridge Road in the Town of Newfane. 

It was reported that heavy smoke was coming from a large hay barn several hundred yards north of Ridge Road. Responding fire companies confirmed that it was a working fire with heavy smoke and flames emitting from the barn.  A plume of dense gray and black smoke could be seen for miles. 

No animals were reported to have been housed in the barn.  A male party was loading hay into the barn via a farm vehicle.  The fire started by  unknown cause in the vicinity of where the hay was being loaded.  The male sustained minor burns to his arm.  The fire was subsequently extinguished by members of the following responding fire companies:  Wrights Corners VFC, South Wilson VFC, Miller Hose VFC, Olcott VFC, and Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station FD. 

There was no estimate on damages available.  An investigation into the cause of the fire is being conducted by the Niagara County Fire Investigation unit.
